Benefits of stretching before and after exercise

We are all guilty of not stretching before and after exercise sometimes. However, without properly warming up and cooling down your muscles and joints, you may start under performing and become more at risk of injury.

A dynamic warm up before activity is said to be better than stretching cold muscles. So jumping up and down on the spot, jogging on the spot and doing a few squats can get the blood flowing to the muscles to get them ready for action.

A five to ten minute stretch within 15 minutes of finishing sport can prevent joints and muscles from stiffening up and promotes recovery.

It’s normal to only think about stretching when we are feeling tired, stiff or achy. However, if we can incorporate it into our everyday routine and exercise regime then you may improve your overall performance and flexibility.
