Feeling stressed? How about a chiropractic adjustment for stress relief?
A scientific study from Japan investigated the effects of a chiropractic adjustment on your body’s nervous system. The scientists took images (PET scans) of the brain and saliva samples from 12 men with neck pain before and after a chiropractic adjustment.
Cortisol is the main stress hormone and levels in your body escalate when you feel stressed. The results of the study showed a significant reduction of cortisol in the saliva after an adjustment. The PET scans showed altered activity in parts of the brain responsible for processing pain and stress.
These results show how a chiropractic adjustment can positively change the neural and hormonal signals coming from the brain to the body and provide stress relief. This helps explain why our patients often report an improved sense of well being after treatment.
